Dima Shvets is co-founder and CEO (since 2021) at Reface, a leader in applying AI/ML technologies for personalized content creation. The Reface app hit #1 in the App Store soon after release and was listed among the best apps of 2020 by Google Play. Celebrities including Elon Musk, Justin Bieber, Snoop Dogg, and Miley Cyrus have shared refaced videos. The Reface app has been installed 180+ million times, and users have generated 5 billion pieces of synthetic media. But of course, there’s been plenty of news about the dark side of synthetic media, including deepfakes.

We talk to Dima about his vision for synthetic media as a form of entertainment, his concern for how these tools can be used for nefarious purposes, how Reface protects against bad actors,  the dangers of synthetic media being  used to create pornographic representations of women, the guardrails he’s implemented to prevent malicious use of his platform, and much more.
